Our Personal Philosophy of Gifted It is our belief that all students are unique and have individual and specific social, emotional and academic needs. Like a puzzle, no one piece can be ignored or set aside. Academically or Intellectually gifted learners' minds are a complex puzzle. These learners are capable of performing at high levels and need a learning environment that nurtures, fosters and enriches their learning. Their specific area of giftedness can be in one area or many; general intellectual ability, specific academic aptitude, creative and productive thinking, leadership ability, visual and performing arts and/or psychomotor ability. These learners come from all populations and socioeconomic backgrounds. As educators, it is our quest to discover these pieces of our students' minds and ensure success for all.
NC State Definition of AIG Students, Article 9B (N.C.G.S. § 115C-150.5) Academically or intellectually gifted students perform or show the potential to perform at substantially high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. Academically or intellectually gifted students exhibit high performance capability in intellectual areas, specific academic fields, or in both the intellectual areas and specific academic fields. Academically or intellectually gifted students require differentiated educational services beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular educational program. Outstanding abilities are present in students from all cultural groups, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor.http://www.ncpublicschools.org/academicservices/gifted/
