What is Math Masters? Math Masters teams are formed in each elementary school in Pitt County to celebrate and encourage students with advanced math capabilities. (Qualifying for this team does not constitute a new/revised identification/qualification for AIG/Stride services.)
How do students qualify for the school's Math Masters Team? Students take a qualifying test. The school is required to test a minimum of 25 students per grade level. The coach will then select the top six scores on the qualifying test for each of the 3 grade levels. (18 total students). In case of a tie, coaches will retest these students that are tied until the tie is broken and there are 6 students for each of the three grades. Final team will consist of 18 students (6 students from 3rd, 4th, and 5th). It is not required that you participate. However, we would love to have you join our team. If you are not interested in being on the Math Masters team, please let me know ASAP so I can offer your spot to another student.

Can parents come for the morning testing portion of the competition? No. During the two hours of testing parents are not allowed to be in the same room with the students. There really isn't anything to see while the students take the test. Parents are welcome to come around 11:30 for lunch and stay for the challenge round activities.
Can Parents come eat lunch with their child? Yes. Unfortunately, we don't have the means to provide lunch for parents. They are welcome to bring something with them and share in the Math Masters experience with their child. Parents can bring their own lunch, eat with their child, and then stay for the individual Math Masters Challenge Rounds.
Where can parents sit? Parents can sit with their child during lunch. However, once the individual Math Masters Rounds begin parents much sit in the designated area. See layout for seating instructions at the PCS/AIG website: http://pitt.k12.nc.us/Page/874
Snacks and Drinks: Students may eat a snack after lunch during the challenge rounds. I will send home a note once the time comes closer asking for donations.
